Mike Thilagarajah has been a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery for over ten years, and has a busy practice tailored to problems of the lower limb. He performs well over 100 knee and hip joint replacements per year and is the lead Foot and Ankle surgeon at his NHS Hospital.
Mr Thilagarajah grew up and lives in South East London. He qualified in 1992 at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, spending the majority of his early training in hospitals around London and Kent. His specialist Orthopaedic training was based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and the Kent rotation. He spent over two years at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in the lower limb unit, the latter period working there as a Consultant in foot and ankle surgery, before taking up his present post at Darent Valley Hospital, Kent, in 2005. Mr Thilagarajah is the College Tutor for Orthopaedics and is committed to maintaining high standards of surgical technique in the training of surgeons of the future. He is the Trauma Lead and one of the senior surgeons in his hospital. He has always placed quality and surgical skills high on his agenda, and regularly teaches on the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Skills courses. He is keen to ensure that his patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and consequently his patients are rest assured that their care is of the highest standard. His lower limb experience is wide-ranging and he takes a holistic approach to the whole of the lower limb, and the interactions between hip, knee, ankle and foot.
Most of his personal time is taken up with his young family, but he can always find time to chat about classic cars and motorbikes, if the opportunity is there.
